After a trilogy of looper-based dark ambient/noise/drone releases, 2018 saw A Light Among Many mastermind Frank Binder hone a new approach for the project, adding Thomas Horner (drums, bass, theremin) and adapting a heavier, more driving drone-doom metal style on top of the shoegazing, noisy dark ambiance showcased in previous releases.
"Vacant Stare" features thundering doom riffs interspersed with hypnotic, crushing drone passages and delicate noise atmospheres, all of which are saturated with fuzz, sub-bass frequencies, and overdriven tube amps. This full-length album features A Light Among Many at their most dynamic, as they introduce heavy metal styling while still exploring suffocatingly dark and anxiety-inducing soundscapes.
